IT Downtime Procedure
Planned Downtime
There will be times when the LightForce HQ network will have a planned downtime. In the event that the LightForce HQ network is going to be down, there are several steps that can be observed before the system goes down and again once the system becomes available for use.
Communication
- Notification of scheduled downtimes will be communicated from the IT department.
- The IT department will communicate when the situation has been addressed and the system is back online.
Scheduling
- Upon notification of the downtime, departments should coordinate schedules for those hours (or days) that the system will be down.
- IT has a standing 2 hour maintenance window on the third Friday of each month, starting at 10PM EST.
- Maintenance that will likely exceed this window will be scheduled via the documented LightForce Maintenance Window Procedure
Recovery Planning
- Changes will follow the documented LightForce change control policy.
- Backup existing configuration and establish roll-back plan
- Document the nature of the changes being made
- Commit the changes
- Test the system
- Commit or Revert changes as needed
- Test the system
- Backup the final configuration
- Document the changes and or issues encountered.
Unplanned Downtime
In the event of an unplanned, unscheduled downtime:
Communication
- Unplanned Downtime should be reported to the IT Department as noticed.
- Notification of unplanned downtime will be communicated by the IT Department to relevant parties.
- The IT department will notify staff when the system is back online.
Recovery Plan
- In the event of Unplanned Downtime, LightForce will follow the documented Business Continuity Plan.
